The Certified Peer Specialist is a current or former consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services who is able to provide recovery-oriented training, education and support to individuals receiving behavioral health services in the community. Works with individuals and groups, which may include families, providing hope, encouragement, support, self determination and connection to the community. 18 year of age or older. HS diploma or GED required. Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services. Must have demonstrated mental health or substance about recovery of one year and can provide written certification. Have or be able to obtain First Aide and BLS/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire. Must have and maintain current certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the approved state of New Mexico certification program. This position requires successful completion of criminal records check. May be required to use personal transportation to carry out job duties. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must provide a current motor vehicle record. Must provide current personal owner liability automobile insurance and must maintain the insurance coverage throughout the course of employment in this position.
